The name.
Basecognos fuses two roots: base — the foundational data a business runs on — and cognos, from the Latin cognoscere, "to know." Together: knowing your foundation. The two roots also reflect the founders' own names — one meaning earth or ground, the other meaning consciousness or awareness.
